1/4″ groove. An insert needs to be 3/4″ smaller than the overall size of the frame. For example, a 16×16 frame needs an 15.25″ x 15.25″ insert. 
Color are walnut, black, wihte desstressed. 
The frames are 1″ x .75″ poplar (Poplar wood often has a green tint).
